Script to remove support files at buildtime

Postby DerrickOlivier » Fri Jul 06, 2012 3:54 am

To InstallAware

I am trying to work out how to remove support files at buildtime. My main reason is when we build patches to exclude certain files to allow the patch size to be smaller.

In my project script I have added the following code to check for the patch:
[Compiler if Variable BUILDMORE Equals PATCH]

I'm not sure what line to add next to exclude the support file? Delete files I see (with ref to the help file) removes the files during installation.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thank you,
Derrick

Dear Derrick,

the patch build contains only the binaries differences for the changes you made ... so support files are not part of the patch build by default.

Have you not found the same?

Hi Francesco

I unfortunately haven't, perhaps I'm adding the support files incorrectly?

If I am in the "design" tab, I go to "User interface" > "Creatives" menu item and add my support files in there. I recall reading somewhere that this was the correct place to place them?

I've done a number of tests regarding the size, and find that removing files from there and creating a patch does affect size.

Dear Derrick,

I confused your original question  sorry!!

Support files and setup dialogs theme are part of a patch build and this files inclusion can't be removed at build time.

What you have done is correct, these files can be added to Creatives list or to Support File list (MSI view).

Actually, The only option that you have, is to create a clone MPR project file (with the identical set of scripts/etc.) but with the modifications made to the dialog files/support files only.

Hi Francesco

No worries, thanks.

I will give the cloned MPR a try. I did get errors when removing a merge module, but I haven't tried the support files. I trust it will work.

Thanks alot,
Derrick
