Error - Could not write value VersionMajor to key

I am building an install for one of our products using IA Studio 8. It is installing to Server 2003 with SP2. I am logged in as full Admin. The install is getting an error trying to write the reg key for the VersionMajor and the uninstall entry for the same. The error reads: Could not write value Ve...

Here is the C# code. It needs some more error handling but it works for letting us deploy a package of 28 standard reports for Reporting Services that our app needs. Let me know what this would look like in IA 8 tool set. I have to mention that I am not a wizard with msi. That was one of the advanta...

Problems with a Patch build installing due to missing files

I'm using IA8 Studio. I have build an installer that works wonderfully. We now need to start doing Patch builds. Patch builds are successfully being built. When I run the patch I get an error. The file 'long file name here' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'PCW_CA...

I ended up having to write a small C# program to deploy a bunch of reports for our app. Then I execute that from the IA installer. I couldn't find a way to do it with just the IA 8 tool set.

I'm no expert yet but I am running SQL scripts through functionality in IA8. The way I have setup my build, the patch process will only replace or update files. From what I have seen so far, you would have to do a little work in the update script to add sql scripts to it to modify your database. The...

Hey Candace! I noticed you answered another post. Any comments on the floating license setup? Is the info in the posted thread correct? Any plans for something different? You have been too good about responding to threads here in Pre-Sales. I am beginning to wonder if you might be ignoring this one ...

Thoughts on Floating Licenses?

Hi Candace! I have had a great experience so far evaluating Studio. I still want to test the Windows style updates but haven't had a chance yet. My other concern is detailed in a post in the Technical Support forum. It relates to how the floating license works. I would really love to hear your thoug...

This may sound like a crazy place to look, but check out the "My SQL Server Connection" example project. It is 3 dialogs. The 2nd dialog uses the "MS SQL Instances" plug-in to get a list of instances. I think you will find the "Get IIS Site List" will do something simil...

Never mind  I sorted it out. It came down to the script file not being saved properly as ANSI text. So for anyone else, if you are running SQL scripts from SQL Server plug-in, use Message Box to output the return variable. If you are getting "SUCCESS" from the result but the script is...

Problems creating an MSSQL database when using filespec

Hi all, I am evaluating Studio version and have a most of my install working. The big problem I have now is creating a database. I have incorporated the SQL sample project and its instance detection successfully. It validates that I am connecting to the database. When I use the exact same setup for ...

Hi All and Candace, Candace, seems you are one of the more likely responder so I had to mention you  I just downloaded and installed the InstallAware 8 Studio trial. I am looking at shifting us to this product but I am currently having problems similar to those described above in this thread. I...
