Installing .Net on Windows 98

I am testing my installation on Windows 98, which includes an automatic download for the .net runtime module.

It downloads fine, but when it comes to install, IA shows it's about to install .net, but pops up a message saying "Your computer needs to be restarted before xxx Setup can continue".

You reboot and the same thing happens. It's getting stuck in a loop and never actually installs anything.

Has anyone done .net installs on Win 98 like this? Or knows what the problem is?...I'm using Microsoft Virtual Server with a clean Win 98 installation.

Thanks.

This is most likely because the installation actually failed. .NET requires an IE update on Windows 98. Try to install Internet Explorer 6 using the plug-in for it, before the part of your code that installs .NET.
