There is not enough space on the disk in child installer

Postby premjeet.singh » Thu Jun 22, 2017 2:50 am

I am using installaware 18 version. I have a master installer with single child installer. When I try to install master build with child installer, the child installer doesn't get installed while files other than master installer defined in components gets installed. I think the issue is of calculation of Required disk space. In master's installer destination dialog the 'Required space' displayed is wrong as it does not calculates the actual space requirement of child installer.

-> When I have sufficient disk space then it works perfectly and everything gets installed.
-> The child installer is compressed at 'Best' level.
-> Child installer runs using the (Un)Install MSI setup plugin which runs silently.
-> Child installer is kept in File Bag command.
-> File Bag command and (Un)Install MSI setup plugin is defined in component
-> I have also used 'Get Component Space' command for this but gets result 0.

Finally that I want is to show the correct 'Required space' in master's installer destination dialog with child installer.

Dear Singh,

what you are reporting is not an error due the wrong calculation of the Required disk space. It cannot be different. Your master installer can only calculate the space required for a physical copy of your child package (the setup.exe). For sure, the master installer can not predict what it will be the effective space used by the child package once installed.

The only option, it's to install your child package as an Application RTM.

At such purpose, you may follow the steps described with the document; "Extending the Application Runtimes View".
https://www.installaware.com/publications-whitepapers.htm

Unfortunately, InstallAware 18 doesn't include the Application Runtime Wizard.
The Application Runtime Wizard offers the fastest way to create new application runtimes to install technology prerequisites from your setup projects in a reusable manner.

Hope this helps you.
