Update Canceled

Postby midnightSun » Tue Apr 23, 2019 9:55 pm

Good Eve.

Many clients don't have Admin permissions and machines require them being we add older custom controls. This is fine, they install as admin.

Upon update if the user doesn't have admin permissions and has to close out, the installer believes it updated giving the message "No updates are available" next time they try to update.
Why is this and how can i fix it? Id think the stock updater would have accounted for this but hasn't.

I should add we are using manual updating.

Thank you

To further point out.

The installer is called twice. Once when the installer lnk is called with /update and again when the installer downloads the patch and the patch is launched to install. It seems because the 2nd installer / patch is successfully downloaded and launched the first installer believes the update is complete when its not. The user closed the 2nd installer not finishing the update.

If you download the patch directly to the users machine after this it too will think the patch has already been applied and wont allow installation.

Thanks

IA adds a line to a file that it has performed the update BEFORE the update is processed. From then on, it assumes the update succeeded. It's hidden in the docs very well.

You need to test that the update succeeded and if not remove the line from the IA created file.

Of course this is unsatisfactory as you could end up in an endless loop of IA trying to update continuously.

Read from Text File $EXEDIR$\installedupdates.dat into Variable UPDATE_PREVIOUSLY_INSTALLED (get EOF into UPDATE_EOF)
