Understanding Compact Setup Type

We have the latest version of the Express Edition and trying to find more info on the "Compact" setup type. I've yet to find any real info on the forums, etc. I understand that if a client selects "Complete" all the features available in the package will be installed. And custom, well that brings you to the feature tree to select the features you want. When I try and test with "Compact", it installs a couple folders and some files. From what I can tell, the compact option only installs files/folders that are not tied to a feature? Is this correct?

Also, is there an option to with the express edition to default to the "Custom" option? I know I can hide the "Setup Type" dialog, but it then defaults to Complete.

Cheers

Unfortunately the Express Edition has limited features.

Otherwise the set of files of a MINIMAL installation (Compact setup type) could be easily defined via script code.

By default, the Features visual designer in the UI automatically excludes each setup feature in a non-complete setup (COMPACT) and automatically includes these in a complete setup.

Unfortunately, there is no way to default to a setup type from the Express edition.
