Install Won't Run From System Account

Hi All,

We have an install (built with X15) for our product that works correctly when run from a user account. However, it doesn't work when run from the system account.

We are trying to run the install from a PsTools cmd prompt. Two entries for the install appear in the Windows Task Manager, but no UI appears and nothing is installed.

I've reproduced this with a new, simple install that only installs a single file.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

This topic applies to InstallAware Multi Platform as well.

Your installation may be querying/attempting to write to folders which do not exist for the System account (such as the Desktop folder).

Also, if you are using an installation theme which contains an embedded folder browser as a tree view, switch to a theme which uses a Browse button and an associated text input field instead - the shell tree view may not be compatible with the System account.

Similar posts in the forum seem to center on the two above primary causes, please let us know how it goes.

When installing under system account the installation must be executed as PER-MACHNE (ALLUSERS=TRUE) and consequently, the "Menu->Programs" and "System->Desktop Directory" folders must indicate the location of the default folder shared by all users of the target system.
