MDAC Refresh version

Postby EricB » Fri Apr 15, 2005 5:57 pm

Does the MDAC Refresh include MDAC version 2.8?

Thanks,

Eric

Thanks. Does the machine need to be re-started after the install if the MDAC Refresh is installed? If so, how in IA Express do I force an install?

Thanks,

Eric

It should do all that automatically.

I had a user do an install, and it should have installed the MDAC refresh, but he was never told to restart. The app did not work, so he went out and did the MDAC_TYP.EXE (version 2.8) and it did tell him to restart. After restarting, all worked correctly.

Is there a way to "force" a restart when the install is finished (for InstallAware Express)?

Thanks,

Eric

I see. Thanks for reporting this.

Normally you'd just go into the script editor (code view) and call the Reboot and Restart Setup function. It seems the Project Wizard generated script is not doing this currently. I'll make sure this is logged for correction.

Until then, I'm afraid the only way Express will ask for a reboot is if Windows Installer tells it to (meaning, some files installed by your project are locked at install time and system needs restarting for updating them).

I had a tester do an install that contained the MDAC Refresh, and then manually do a restart. When he tried to run my app, he got the same db error that I have seen when MDAC 2.8 is not installed. He then ran MDAC_TYPE 2.8, and restart (MDAC_TYP requires this) and then the app worked correctly.

It appears that the MDAC Refresh is NOT installing MDAC 2.8, not just not requiring a restart.

Thanks,

Eric

The MDAC refresh installs version 2.8.

It is possible the stand alone version manually installed may have contained other drivers and/or items that were necessary.
