Have I misunderstood Features?

What I want to do is have Features called

Default
Complete
Main Program
Support Files
Reports
Etc

I want Default to include Main and Support Files, but not some of the others. But I have to add files to Default as well as to the other features, not just add features to Default. Is that correct?

I'm not sure I understand your question below.

If you want Default to contain other sub-features, you can definitely arrange this. In the visual view select Default and then create the sub features, or in the code view, name your features Default\\sub feature 1, Default\\sub feature 2, etc..
