I am having a hard time understanding why would someone need to change the value of the “Upgrades Product with Product Code” entry.
I think I remember looking at this value during different builds and I didn’t see it changing.
So my question is, can someone give me an example of when this property would come in handy?
Thanks.

You don't want to change this property. It is used in patching - both the old and the new versions of your setup - the old patch reference and the latest version that the patch is created from - must have the same property in this field. Otherwise patch creation will fail.
So have the same GUID there in all old and new versions of projects that you want to patch from one version to another.

1.- Is that the reason why the “Upgrades Product with Product Code” entry does not have a button to generate a new GUID like the “Product Code” and “Revision Code” entries do? Is the idea to try to discourage people from creating a new GUID because it’s not something they really need to do?
2.- If the above is true, shouldn’t the “Product Code” entry not have a button to generate a new GUID either because “Product Code” should not really be changed either? After all, InstallAware automatically creates a new fresh “Product Code” GUID every time a new project is created so there is really no need to change that GUID either is there?
Thanks

1. Yes.
2. No - you can disable the auto-refresh and choose to manually control the revision code.
