Proxy Issue - Downloading web media blocks

Hi,

I am having a problem whereby, on a machine that is behind a proxy in a corporate environment, the installaware client is unable to download a web media block, giving the error:

------
Downloading of installation data from the web has failed. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet. Would you like to try to resume / download...
------

(screenshot is attached)

I can, using IE, navigate to the 7zip file directly using Internet Explorer and it downloads Ok.

The same installer can download the web media block succesfully when running on a machine that does not use a proxy.

We've also had it work on other machines that use a proxy, the difference being this machine is deployed in a corporate setup:

- Windows XP
- Tivoli environment
- Automatic proxy details ticked in Control Panel > Internet

My questions are:

- Is there a known solution to this problem?
- Is there a way to explicitly configure proxy information in InstallAware?

Many thanks,
Jim McArthur

A workaround for this would be to analyze the internal process of IA:

IA:

1. Downloads the web media blocks to the temporary internet files folder
2. Extracts the web media blocks to the temp folder
3. Installs the files

If you have a proxy server, it is impossible to IA to perform step 1. Therefore you can do it via Download File plug-in which has the option to configure proxy settings. Just download the WMB's to the internet cache folder and IA will do the rest. This folder can be obtained with the "Get Folder Location":

Code: Select all

Get Folder Location Internet->Cache Folder into cache

Did version 8 fix this issue?

In the Download File component there are optional settings for the proxy server address and port. If the corporate setting says that the user must enter special credentials to access the internet, couldn't the installer be set to run under those credentials (proxy authentication)?

We do ask for the user to enter those proxy settings (and credentials) in our setup because we need to have a windows service use them.

InstallAware uses the proxy settings from the Internet Explorer configuration since it uses the IE engine for downloads (where available). As long as IE is configured correctly for proxy access, everything should work seamlessly. Of course, if IE is not available, then InstallAware's manual download engine is available, and only then do you get a manual proxy prompt - as otherwise this step is unnecessary.

I have problems with downloading WebMediaBlocks. The Proxy Settings are configured in IE. What could be the problem?

IA does not ask for the proxy credentials...even when I enter the proxy settings seperatly in download file plugin...

AFAIK the proxy credentials set in Internet Explorer are of use by InstallAware.
