On digging around seeing what the installer actually does (originally to see if I could solve a problem which actually had another solution) I came across an oddity.
The installer generates a lot of registry entries, many of which are related to the product title or code (as one would expect). But codes seem to be generated which don't bear any relationship to my product code or revision code (for example, under HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\Installer\\Features\\ there's a new key with a value 7844978083DDD37458BD5830B716335D, which has nothing to do with my product code or revision level). This 'magic number' pops up all over the place in the registry, and seems to be constant across revision levels.
Is it the MSI system that's generating these keys: and what are they associated with (ie are they generated from the product code or title)?
Thanks,
John B
