IA creates corrupt virtual folder on Windows 7 / 2008

Postby AlexB » Sun May 30, 2010 5:16 pm

Hi,

I have an IA setup project which creates virtual folder. It works fine on Windows XP.
However, when I run it on either Windows 7 or 2008, virtual folder appears corrupt.
The entry in “C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config” file contains backslashes instead of forward slashes. To resolve the issue I have to edit applicationHost.config file manually.

Details on InstallAware version, command settings, etc. would be helpful :)

This has already been fixed - regenerate, and reinstall your license; then rebuild. The problem should go away.

Hi Michael,

My IA version is IA 9 R2(Build Moya.sp2.052710)
I assume that’s latest available build as that’s what your Website says
http://www.installaware.com/downloads-p ... nloads.htm

Version: 9.09, Service Pack 2 (build Moya)
Released to Manufacturing on: May 27, 2010

I found the following thread:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5717&p=20544&hilit=regenerate+license#p20544
which describes my problem exactly.

I’ve regenerated and reinstalled my IA license today as per your advise.
Unfortunately, problem persists. Virtual folder appears corrupt.

When I try to start Default Web Site from the IIS Manager it gives me the following error:
“Value does not fall within the expected range.”

C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config file contains following corrupt entry:
<application path="/MySite\Web" applicationPool="Web">
<virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="C:\inetpub\wwwroot\MySite\Web" />
</application>
To resolve this issue I have to remove the above entry, restart IIS and “Convert To Application”

This fix is available only from the online license generator, that's why I said in the post:
The fix is live - just regenerate and reinstall your license, and rebuild your setups to validate.

Did you try that?

Yes, I did. It makes no difference to me. Virtual folder still appears corrupt in IIS7.

Delete the file miastub.exe in your InstallAware\interop folder, rebuild your install from the main InstallAware IDE, and try again.

I tried that. I am getting the follwoing error after deleting miastub.exe from interop folder:

Built plug-in action Call DLL Function
Built plug-in action Call DLL Function
Created Windows Installer database
Error during build: Access violation at address 004ECC81 in module 'miae.exe'. Read of address 00000010

I had Camelot InstallAware Plugins installed. I've uninstalled them and restarted IA IDE. However, 'Error during build' problem persists.

It would seem something is amiss with your installation. Did you install the latest version trial fully, and then run the latest license file on top of that?

Yes, I did. I ran InstallAware_9_With_Runtimes.exe (File version 9.9.9009.2010) which is 1.5 Gb file.
I did not uninstall previous IA version though.
License file has been regenerated and ran on top of that as well.

The setup uninstalls the prior version automatically. If that did not go through or was suppressed somehow, that might explain it. Want to try a manual uninstall and reinstall? Be sure to regenerate your license fresh - an update was issued for the IIS 7 which took effect a couple weeks ago on the license generator side only.

Still no luck. I manually uninstalled IA, removed all IA folders I could find in program files. I installed IA 9 R2 again and ran new license over. I built my setup from IA IDE.
Virtual folder appears corrupt and I can't even start default Web site.

Delete the file miastub.exe in your InstallAware\interop folder option still does not work for me as before. I can't compile my project without that file.

I think then we are at the point where we need a minimum reproducing project from you, because the issue has been fixed to the best of our knowledge, but maybe you are exposing another problem that has not been covered.
