can anyone confirm that .net 4 client profile is installing correctly? i did download the runtime update that supposedly fixed an issue, but it's just not going. tried on a VM, and it failed, downloaded and installed from MS and it worked fine.
is there a way i can see why it's failing from IA? Where does the log file go?

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
Do you have the latest runtimes bundled with InstallAware 9 R2 itself? Some issues with the other runtimes have been resolved in this latest distribution.
Please provide more specific details for more guidance.

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
hey michael,
i downloaded the updated runtimes from the .net 4 thread where you said they fixed issues with missing files. are there even more recent ones than that? i'm currently downloading the full package right now and will re-install and see where that gets me.
the error just says the install failed and to use windows update. standard error that i think IA generates in the MS package failures.

Did you deselect any prereqs that the client profile might be needing? That might be an issue also. To see the actual MS error, run your current MS setup files outside of your InstallAware setup to see the GUI feedback.

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
hey michael,
i didn't de-select any pre-reqs, does it even use any? windows installer 3.1?
running the setup.exe that was generated for client profile told me i couldn't install using that file and to check the readme. i've installed the latest IA overnight (did you know IE can't download the full thing timesout halfway through, firefox had to do it. bah!) so i will see if i have any different results now.
where are the webappblocks cached? my setup keeps opening the old one and i can't find them anywhere, and search on the forums isn't bringing a solution up. so i have to now keep packing as cd deploy to test.

This is what i'm getting with the setup.exe from .net 4 client profile generated by IA.

What OS are you trying to install .NET 4 Client Profile on, this is kind of an important question

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
I am unable to reproduce this with my copy of InstallAware 9 R2 and clean installs of Windows XP SP 3 and Windows 7 Ultimate RTM.
Are you observing the correct bitness in your tests (32 bit vs. 64 bit)?

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
hmmm... crap.
i'm using just x86 version. the xp machine (windows xp mode in windows 7) is just 32 bit, the windows 7 is x64, but x86 should install on it, correct?

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
Let's do a test real quick...
I did an uncompressed build...
Microsoft .NET Framework Client 4 folder is generated like so...
Size: 124 MB (130,059,208 bytes)
Size on disk: 124 MB (130,314,240 bytes)
Contains: 128 Files, 31 Folders
How does yours stack up?

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
Hmm... it is looking like a bit issue now???!!!
Did they change .net to be platform specific in 4? I'm confused. Now I have to find the docs to get x86 and x64 in the same installer and pick the correct ones. i've never found decent documentation on this feature of installaware on how to pull it off. maybe i'm not looking in the right spots.

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
Are there any subfolders in this build folder:
...\Uncompressed\data\Microsoft .NET Framework Client 4\mFileBagIDE.dll\bag
?
There ought to be, if you are running the latest fixed version of the runtimes.
And, you do need the x64 bit version of the runtime on x64 OS.

Re: .net 4 client profile failing
Oh that's easy - just add both to your setup, then edit the included scripts or wrap them around If's to respect the correct bit-ness.
