Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpress 20
Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpress 20
It's really slow and it's on an SSD. Files on another drive or my documents copy fast. Happens on cd or dvd or web deploy etc.
Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
How do you think we could reproduce this?

Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
Basically on build of the setup any file in Program files(x86) on an x64 machine copies super slowly. All other files in other directories is fast. Should be pretty easy to repro.

But only on a solid-state drive?
Do you simply mean 'hard drive' or some specific type (like something newer that doesn't have spindles and actuators)?

Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
I was being super specific but it appears to happen at all times.
As of this morning though it's not doing it.

Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
It appears to be some setting on their normal isntallers that causes your app to run slowly copying the files. If you use one of their beta installers it's fine. But it's very reproducable with the public installer of Dev Express Controls.
Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
Hmm. Could you clarify what you mean by "beta" and "normal" installers?

Also, what type of drive is it? MLC or SLC?

Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
DevExpress has their normal release cycle and then they also offer patches for bugs found between releases.
If you install the normal release cycle installers and then compile an installer using install aware on ANY hard drive it is slow. Uninstall that and use an interim build and it works fine.

Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
It makes me wonder if it takes a long time to simply copy/paste from "C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpress 20" to another directory through Windows Explorer (eliminate InstallAware from the test case).

Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
No, tested that and it's fine. So is copy from command prompt.
Re: Slow to copy files from C:\Program Files (x86)\DevExpres
How many DevExpress controls do you use?
I have been in communication with DevExpress and I have access to their product to run some test.
You later mentioned that it's slow on any hard drive, is this any solid state drive or any hard drive?
