The folder path 'C:' contains an invalid character.

Postby bhaiwal » Mon Oct 18, 2010 11:11 am

I am new to InstallAware.

I tried to create a setup for VB6 application using "Quick Start" wizard. The build is created, but while trying to install it shows, "The folder path 'C:' contains an invalid character." error.

pl. help.

At what point during the install does this error appear?

I don't think there's a space in the path, otherwise you would get a network location error.

If the drive was invalid, you'd get an invalid drive error...

Thanks for the reply.

Still I have the problem. Following is further information, that might be useful, in understanding the problem.

This happens on "Installing" screen, with the message, "Computing space requirements" on the screen.

Yes, the files those would be installed, does contain spaces. Moreover, the application is being installed in AppData folder, so that too contains spaces on WinXp machine. "Application Data".

I have created the setup using "InstallAware 7 R2"'s "Quick Start" wizard. Did not customized anything whatsoever afterwards. The files used to package in the build, in the wizard were on the AppData folder, with required Tree-Structure.

Pl. help.

I think the quickstart may have changed since IA 7. It sounds like it would produce different project settings in IA 9.

Could you post the project here or email it zipped to support@installaware.com?

I'm getting the exact same error on IA 18. What was the resolution to this issue?

Dear Mbond,

I suggest you to verify how you defined the target path in your project and eventually, if the TARGETDIR pre-defined variable has been assigned to an improper value in your main script.

Alternatively, try to release a reduced copy of your project that for example, it only includes and installs a single dummy file.

Verify that the project still reproduces the error you are experiencing and send it to us in a compressed archive (please have care to include all files required to compile the project). I'll verify it.
