7-Zip v4.15 beta and InstallAware...

Postby [MS]Mark » Thu Jan 27, 2005 7:07 am

I've just updated my version of 7-Zip from v4.12 to v4.15 and it seems that InstallAware (both v3 and v3.1 Beta) won't now produce the setup package...

Error message in InstallAware is :

Built installation executable
Injected setup language
Error during build: Unable to build runtime files

Any ideas?

Yes, we don't recommend you install 7-Zip on top of IA.
I recommend removing 7-Zip and doing a repair of IA.

well, it seems 7-Zip 4.14 or later doesn't like exisiting with InstallAware (even if already on the system before IA gets installed)...bit of a pain that IA doesn't like 4.14+ (as that's when the multi-archive was introduced) but I'm sure I can find a way to work around it

Sinan, Any plans to add this to Comprexx? :)

Oh, they've already introduced multi-archive?

We have code which wraps the native 7-Zip classes but it fails with the newer versions. We'll be isolating this code even more in the future releases to make sure it doesn't break any versions of 7-Zip.

yep - 4.14 introduced the multi-archive function...

It'd be nice to have InstallAware and 7-Zip co-exist nicely on the same machine but until then I'll hunt down another PC to run the latest 7-Zip on...

No worries. The next update to IA has integrated compression/extraction functionality. IA is now completely independent of other 7-Zip installs which may potentially be present on the machine. Also slightly better compression ratios are available

Stay tuned for updates.
