Hi guys, I am trying to do the first patch version of our installation and am having a problem with the patch asking for the original install media.

According to the documentation, if you use a Web deployed installation, all the installation media should be cached on the local computer so it should not ask.

Is there any way to determine why it is looking for the original install media?

Process,
Install web deployed application on a clean pc
Install Patch.
once you start the patch install it asks for the original source.

any ideas?

Looks like I have found the reason for this one.

In this case we are trying to patch from version 12.3.0.51 to 12.3.0.52.

But in our application the Product name is made up of the app name and the version.

e.g the $TITLE$ is "AppName R12.3.0.51".

this is applied in the script.

In the case of this upgrade the Product name is to change from "AppName R12.3.0.51" to "AppName R12.3.0.52".

The reason for this is that if you have multiple full versions of the software installed, e.g 12.2.0.48, 12.3.0.18, 12.3.0.51. (done using new instances) changing the Product Name in this way seems to be the only way to differentiate the versions in the Add/Remove Programs section. Please correct me if I am wrong here.

This is the case when the please insert source media appears.

If I leave the version at R12.3.0.51, the patch seems to work.

Is there any way round this?

How can I patch from 12.3.0.51 to 12.3.0.52?

After some further investigation into the patching, I have come up against another issue.

In our original build, the default target directory is generated from the application title, including the version.

This is slightly different from the target directory specified in the IDE Project Properties.

For a patch I would expect it to be installed in the same directory that the original application was installed into, which the user can modify.

but when I apply the patch, it installs the new version in a directory based on the default one supplied in the GUI.

Even if the user reselects their own directory, the patch will still get installed into the default directory defined in the IDE.

Any ideas on this one.
