I notice the following anomallies when viewing the properties of the EXE and msi files when right clicking on the file and selecting properties.

For the exe ( created in an uncompressed build) the Summary tab is completely blank (maybe that is expceted) and the Version tab holds places for Comments ( set to " This instalaltion was built by installaware: "

Product Version is Set to 0,0,0,0 ( How can this be set to the product code?

How does the Comments Section get populated?

Right click on Properties of the uncompressed msi
Select the Summary tab
Select the Advanced button
The revision code shows here but not the product code ( is there a way to add this programmatically ?)

Is it also possible to makes these setting promulgate to the MSI created in the Group policy Wizard??

I noticed that you're trying to do some advanced setup development in InstallAware, and you appear to be somewhat unfamiliar with Windows Installer.

For example, the product code is stored in the MSI, yet Windows Explorer will not display the product code in the file properties field. This is true of all Windows Installer packages.

Thanks for the information Jeremy, As much as I would love some sitdown time with someone experienced in Installaware, our current budget does not allow for training options.

I do have a fair amount of familiarity with Windows installer... ( but I did take a year or so off from actively working with developing msi installations...and was using a different tool to boot)

I am trying to figure out how the Installaware product sets properties etc...which methods are encapsulated within the custom controls created within the how commands are translating to native Windows Installer actions

With Regard to my post above, Since the product code is stored in an Installaware variable, I was trying to figure out how to get it into the EXE properties ( I can of course add this manually if necessary)

And I was wondering why only the revision code shows in the properties for the MSI and the product code does not....

I am converting an installation from a setup created with Wise Professional to the msi format, and there are a few operations not supported by Windows Installer that I need to replicate. It is a challenge

The technical support forum is really not an adequate way for InstallAware to provide product training. We will be happy to assist you further under a per-incident support contract.
