IA crashes after creating an IIS application on Windows 8

Hi

Installers created with IA (NX and earlier versions) crashes after creating an IIS application on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.
This occurred in our setup project which is a fairly complicated script, so I tried it also
with the built-in template "Creating IIS Websites and Virtual Folders Example" with same results.
Application gets created but the the installer crashes. Event log shows exception code error C0000417 and
faulting module name is ahadmin_wrapper.dll.

Dear Paavo,

We have reproduced the issues and I can confirm you that an update will be available soon for InstallAware NX.

Any chance this can be fixed in IA 2012? Or that there is a workaround?
Thanks

unfortunately at the moment I have not been informed about a possible update for IA 2012.

The only possible workaround that comes to my mind it is to use a Powershell script for that ... if you do a google search I'm sure you will find more detailed info on how to.

Can you clarify what is the issue so that we can implement a workaround?
The link referenced by this article does not seem to be valid.

We are using IA 12.

Thanks

Dear User,

the link reported refers to "List of Bug Fixes in InstallAware 14.03 (74)" only and it doesn't contains a workaround for this issue.

Unfortunately, WIN 8 was not available when InstallAware 12 was distributed.

A possible workaround "That I suppose could work", it is to use a Powershell script for that ... but you should verify it with the PowerShell documentation or searching, if sample scripts about the matter are available .

We are doing our first Server 2012 installation (our other sites were all running Server 2008) with out InstallAware 2012 and of course, the installation crashed with Exception Code c0000417 in ahadmin_wrapper.dll just as it had for the original poster and of course, we, and by we it seems I mean I, am under tremendous pressure to get this installation working. If my company gets the current version of InstallAware, will I be able to simply load my old installation package rebuild it, and end up with a non-crashing Server 2012 installation or will tweaking be involved.

Presuming that it is simply load, build, and run (or something mercifully close to it), will my new package be backward compatible so that I can still run it on Server 2008 sites?

Help please and thank you.

Dear User,

Yes, you should not have any backward compatible problems.

Anyway, you can use the available IA 18 trial to execute all your verifications.

NOTE!
Make a backup of your projects before to use them with IA 18, otherwise you will be not able open them with your previous IA version.
Because you are migrating setup projects from older InstallAware versions to Unicode versions of InstallAware: Please refer to the information available about "Unicode Upgrade Tool" with the IA documentation.

Finally before to un-install your current IA version, verify that you have a backup copy of your product installer (full installer with runtimes) along with your personal activation file, in case you need to re-install it later.
