I tried to create new key and write to the registry with the following command:

Write Registry Key HKLM\\Software\\MyProduct\\RegVar, $MYVAR$

but it did not work.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Did you let Apply Install run?

I could not get it to work when the command was issued after the applying install. It seems to work when it is done before.
