Does anyone have an idea on how my setup script can preserve the location of the desktop shortcuts for my application when users upgrade?

I'm currently thinking that either:
1. I manage the creating and deletion of desktop icons outside the control of Windows Installer.
2. I can somehow capture and set the location of an icon in Windows Explorer.

Do you know how Explorer internally stores location information for icons?
If its somewhere in the registry, you could read that, and then uninstall normally, and then install normally together with the new registry information...
