What is scripting?

Postby fdecker » Fri Aug 22, 2014 11:32 am

The difference between the express version and the other versions is "scripting". I can find no information, videos, demos, etc. to explain any of this. Does this mean you can't edit any of the code? What I did see seemed to show a window that showed the script. Basically, we have a non-standard application that needs to install both a 32bit OCX control and a 64bit OCX control. We want to be able to interject a call to our serial number checker when they enter a serial number. We have used Installshield in the past and Inno Setup. Both have "scripting" in that I can write code to do non-standard installations. Can you please explain scripting and help me decide what edition I need?

Dear User,

yes, scripting capabilities are not available with Express edition and you should consider at least Developer edition, if you want to customize the installation process.

Regarding the features available with each InstallAware edition, please have a look at the following link.

In addition, I suggest you to have a look at the document "MSIcode Scripting Technology for Windows Installer" available with the following link.
