Can IA Express do this...

Postby 440hertz » Mon Mar 16, 2015 6:27 pm

We're evaluating install tools and have the following requirements for the IA Express product.

1) On a 32-bit platform, install 32-bit components. On a 64-bit platform, install both 32 and 64-bit components and write to both HKLM\SOFTWARE and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node. Specifically, can it handle the registry reflection changes that occurred between Windows Server 2008 (Vista) and 2008 R2 (W7)? There was an older thread on this forum that seemed to indicate edits of the script were necessary to toggle between 32 and 64-bit behavior at the correct time in the installation sequence in order to do this. Is this still necessary (the hand editing) in the latest version of Express? Will all the registry entries be correctly removed on an uninstall?

2) Edit the .NET 2.0 and 4.0 machine.config XML files (both 32 and 64-bit frameworks)? Remove the entries on an uninstall?

3) Are the intermediate files generated by the Express tool--specifically the Visual Studio extension--conducive to multiple build and developer machines? For example, absolute paths to files, resources, etc. is not going to work.

4) Can IA Express build executable as well as msi files?

Cheers,
Hz

Dear User,

1> Unfortunately using IA Express edition is not possible to switch 32/64-bit mode during the installation sequence. You should consider at least Developer edition if you need such kind of control.

2> The XML Files page allows you to edit data contained inside new or existing XML files ("XML file" under "setup Architecture" node from the left tree pane in IA IDE). Any modification is permanent, unless you made a backup copy of the original files. In IA express you may use the "Run Program" view to restore the files at un-install time.

3> You should be able to define relative paths with re-editing them in the IA IDE and once the project has been generated using the Visual Studio Add-in.

4> Yes.

Please visit the following link for more details on IA features available with each edition.
