I notice from a previous post that the current version does not support Web Service Extensions in IIS 6. Are there plans to add this functionality? If so what are the approximate timescales?

Is there another way, in the meantime, that I could create the web service extension as part of the install?

You can create a plug-in to perform this task.
I know this is on our roadmap but I do not have a definite timeline for it...sorry!

I guess this important feature did not make it into version 7 - or have I missed something? Please advice if there is a different way to accomplish this..
