Is it possible to check for other pre-installed applications

Postby daniel347x » Mon Nov 14, 2005 7:47 am

Hello,

I am creating a plug-in for Acrobat. Is it possible for InstallAware to create an installation that will check for the most recent installed version of Acrobat on the user's machine (without my having to hardcode the default Acrobat path and then check for Acrobat version numbers myself to determine which is the most recent version of Acrobat installed)... or, better yet, is it possible for InstallAware to indicate if multiple versions of Acrobat are installed so that I can do some custom script or .dll call to prompt the user to select one?

Thanks,

Dan Nissenbaum

You can do all of these using scripting. Of course, you will need to know where to look for the information (ex: where in the registry), and so on. You can also check if an MSI package with a particular GUID has been installed using scripting, so you could find the package codes for the Acrobat versions you intend to support. See the Read Registry and Is MSI Setup Installed commands as starting points.
