Going from Trial to Licensed version

Postby gsaunders » Fri Aug 20, 2010 10:02 am

I have been testing using the trial and have built an install and used it for an immediate need.

Once I get the key and create an update will it update the previous build done with the trial?

Just getting prepped on whether I will have to reinstall my 20 users or just let them update.

Thanks.

You are not allowed to distribute installers you have built with InstallAware on the trial version.

What you need to do is rebuild your project once you have your license and distribute only that one.

The ones already on the field will work, but this is a license violation.

I should have clarified... the immediate need was the need to test the product asap to find out if it will do what we need it to do or if I need to go back to our existing installer product. I tested this with 2 of our 20 internal users.

The only way to test it properly in our environment is to create a test install and see if it works at our remote site and if it properly does web updates. The 2 users are my power users that I do all my tests with to make sure our products work as users would expect.

Thanks for clarifying about distributing the trial install... we have already uninstalled from our 2 test users. Once the key arrives we will rebuild and then send out to our 20 users.

Actually now with the 30 day money back guarantee (http://www.installaware.com/blog/?p=23), you can go-live under a paid license too - as long as you make up your mind within 30 days :)

I unfortunately missed that until after we ordered through Cleverbridge. Our company generally only orders with PO when over $1000 so I have to wait for check to get to Cleverbridge. I thought the PO was going to be a net 30 situation, but it really is just a holding place for the order until the check gets there. Either way it will probably be a week or two before we receive a license.
