Maintenance and reinstalling

Postby christ23 » Mon Jun 25, 2012 3:21 am

Hi,

i am wondering about one thing when using the maintenance dialog. Imagine the following scenario :
- User can choose between some features (let's call them A,B,C,D,E)
- User chooses B to install
- When the install of B is complete,
- User starts the installer again and chooses "Add or remove features"
- Then, the user chooses C (B is already marked as installed, and should stay installed)
- Now, the installer is running setup B again, and then C

Is there a way not to re-install feature B ? Am i missing something ?

Dear User,

you could try the following;

- Use "Save Feature Selections" command to store the selection in a file.
- Use "Load Feature Selections" in Maintenance mode and before Maintenance Dialog.
- Then conditionally skip component installation if already installed during Maintenance mode.

Sorry for necro. I am trying to solve this very problem as well. How do you "skip" installing a component? And would this "check for Maintenance" go in to intial install / maintenance section?

Thanks

Here you can find two ready to use sample projects ("Features sample" and "Features sample (2)".
