Use of Flash movie in progress dialog breaks setup on Windows Server 2019

Postby ohali » Tue Oct 29, 2019 1:55 pm

Hi,

I've a setup that is working now for a couple of years under different target environments. Now the same setup fails to complete under Windows Server 2019. It displays an error message "Library not registerd" in the moment when it should display a progress dialog that contains a Flash movie. The setup itself is not missing any files, because the same setup works on a different target system without problems.

We could reproduce this behaviour in a virtual machine with a fresh installation of Windows Server 2019 in our office.

I've re-compiled the setup with the current version of InstallAware X10, but the problem still exists.
If I remove the FlashFrame, the setup is working again, but that is obviously no solution.

The manual states

The moment a dialog containing the FlashFrame control is shown, InstallAware will automatically attempt to install the player runtime if it is not already available. If the installation fails, the dialog will not render the movie, but no setup error will occur - your installation will continue normally.

But this is obviously not the case. The setup terminates after the error message.

Could you please check that and provide a fix?

Thanks.

Windows Server 2019 is able to display flash movies only if you have the Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) role installed.
I assume the error message means that this isn't the case.

Hi,
thanks for your response. While this might be true, it is not under my control, which server roles are installed on the target system. If the setup would continue without displaying the movie (as it should be, regarding the text in the manual), then it would be ok for me. But now it breaks the setup and it is impossible to install the software on that machine.

Additionally, one of the target systems at our customers site was designed as a terminal server... I've not checked, but I'm quite sure, that the RDSH role was installed on that server.

I think, this issue should be solved in InstallAware.

You're right, the setup has to function either way.

I'm not sure if anyone at InstallAware is still following their forums, thought. In any case they haven't answered for a year or so.
Best regards
