Hi,

It is unlikely that it will cause you any problems, however we cannot say with certainty.

You can read about DPinst here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... s.85).aspx

Ok thanks giaviv,

but the link you have posted says:
"Sorry this page is unavailable.
Please try again later."

I think best way is to test our setups and ignore the errors posted in the windows error log.

You can just google DPINST - the first result is what I posted. Thanks!

Hmm i didn't know it's a component from microsoft.
But it lies definitely inside the InstallAware installation folder, so my thinking is InstallAware is using it for some process inside.
What causes the error entries would be a misterium and I dont want to spend any more time in investigating this error.
I hope there will no error occur in our setup later. We are software developers and have enough problems with our own application.

Thanks anyway

I'd like to clarify a few things here:

InstallAware does officially support TFS server, so if you have any kind of issue at all, please report it and have it escalated to R&D.

In this context however, it appears that a driver is being installed - I would suggest checking your script to see whether any driver installation calls are being made. DPInst.exe is part of Microsoft's DIFx Framework which is something InstallAware also supports as a native script action; however it wouldn't just be invoked automatically just because you're running on TFS, for example.

With your detailed reports, we will get to the bottom of this issue for you.

Hi again,
its like I said the error occurs, we saw that it isnt occuring every day, but allways the same time on our windows 2008 R2 server x64 with TFS.
We have no windows task or something else that runs at this time. Even at Christmas Night 12:30 a.m. it occurs...
That's definitely a time noone is working on it. I dont think it has something to do with our buildscript eather, because we never build at this time.
We have automated our builds, so if anyone checks in the build is started. I dont know what will cause the errorlog...but you can shurly understand that its not nice to have such windows errors on a server that is needed for source control.

Greetings
Martin

Hi,

1) How can we reliably reproduce this issue?
2) What is going on with the driver installer? You did not answer the questions we asked you. Could you please clarify?

Hi,
1) I dont know, I never tried to reproduce! If I do this, I will have to install a seperate mashine with Windows 2008 R2 and TFS, IA -Installation etc. - only to reproduce the error and get it another time? Sorry thats not my job here.
2) What question??? I dont know what is going on with the driver installer! The only thing I know is that the windows error occurs on several days 12:30 a.m. on our Windows 2008 R2 Server with TFS where all the sourcecode lies - and thats not cool!
I guess it has to do with the runtimes we installed on the TFS. We didnt install all of them because we dont need them.
Thats the only thinkable reason i can imagine. But like I said, we dont have time to investigate.

Thanks anyway
Martin

Like Sinan said, the DPinst.exe program does not run by itself - it is invoked by IA when an Install Driver command is called.
Can you confirm that there are no such commands in your code? You can use ctrl+F to search.

There is no such command inside my MSI-Code. I also searched all files inside my Projectfolder for containing words - nothing!
And even if it was...there has never been called a build at 12:30 a.m.!
Its like I said: We automated our builds on TFS. So anyone has to check in nearly every night at 12:30 to call our build!?
And why is there no such error at day when several developers work here? I dont think my MSI-Code can cause this error.
Thats definitely not the reason!

Hi,

Could it be that there is another setup involved here?

No it could not, my setup is the only one built on TFS with IA.

That is extremely odd. This simply can't be, something in your setup there has to be messed up.
Are you able to setup a different testing environment?

No I am not able to set up a different Windows Server 2008 R2 with TFS , InstallAware and our whole source on it...
I think we will not come to an end in this. I am not investigating in this error any longer.
