I don't think I have one. I have 3rd party assemblies, but I don't know what language they are in, or if they are supposed to register as COM objects. I could write a small one and send the dll and/or project to you.

SteveRing,

That definitely could work. Type up an assembly in C++ and send the solution over to me at support at installaware.com

I sent you the project. The email also has some vb code to test the registration.

Dear SteveRing,

I compiled the assembly you sent me and registered it with IA - I then ran the VB code and I was able to use the assembly, namely it was installed into the GAC. Is this not the case on your end?

The last project targeted the 3.5 framework instead of 4.0. I sent you a new project, with an installer, that doesn't register on my machine (at least via the installer).

Thank you. We are now looking into this - I will keep you updated.

Dear SteveRing,

Are you trying to register the assembly to your gac? By calling regasm /codebase you are NOT registering the assembly into the GAC, but registering it from its current location.

I'm trying to register an assembly in the gac. I'm not using /codebase. Did the example I sent you (the second one using the 4.0 framework) work for you? As you can see in the msi code in the installer example that was with it, it doesn't use /codebase.

Dear SteveRing,

I compiled the .NET 4 project that you sent me. The assembly will successfully register to the GAC using the gacutil command, but it wont be loaded when reflected on. The same thing happens when I register it with IA. What am I missing here?

As far as I know you're not missing anything. You've duplicated the problem. The assembly gets installed to the GAC (GAC_32) and will work as a .net assembly, but it doesn't get registered as a com object (regasm).

You can open a dos window (as an admin) go to the correct folder under GAC_32 and run regasm, without codebase, by hand and it will work.

Yes, you are right in that it successfully installed to the GAC. However, if you run regasm AFTER registering your assembly to the GAC, regasm fails (just like IA)

I didn't include c++ runtime 10 in the installer because I assumed you'd already have it installed. If not, it's a required runtime. Is that the problem?

Dear SteveRing,

That isn't the problem - I indeed have VC++ 2010 runtimes installed. Are you experiencing things any differently? Are you able to call regasm on an assembly you registered to the GAC with IA / gacutil?
