Merge Modules

I am having a problem building a setup using the SAPI 5.1 merge modules obtained from Microsoft. It always fails on the second merge module no matter what order I place them in the list. Also, after a failure, I must stop and restart the IDE to attempt another compile.

Could you let me know where I might obtain a copy of said MSMs?

I am looking into this and will get back to you.
In the meantime can you please verify that the merge module library is registered on your system?
  • 1) Open a command prompt in your InstallAware folder
    2) Type regsvr32 mergemod.dll
    3) Try again

The module is loaded but it still fails.

I added sp5 and it built fine. Then I added sp5intl and I got this error:
The language of this installation package is not supported by your system
It would seem the sp5intl is in some unsupported language. Perhaps you can ask Microsoft why this error would occur?

Well I don't get that error. Here is what I get from InstallAware:

Cleared output folder D:\\Internet Downloads\\Microsoft\\SAPI\\5.1\\Distribution\\InstallAware SAPI 51 installation\\SAPI 5.1\\Release\\Single\Built plug-in action Windows Installer
Built plug-in action (Un)Install MSI Setup
Built plug-in action Windows Installer
Created Windows Installer database
Merged Windows Installer database with module Sp5
Error during build: Unable to merge Windows Installer database with module Sp5Intl

I am able to merge all these MSM files using the Microsoft Visual Studio Installer.

Thanks for spotting this one - it was indeed a problem in the InstallAware merge logic, which failed when a peculiar combination of language properties were specified in merge modules. The issue has been fixed. To apply the fix:
I tested with the list below and the setup built fine.

Once again, thank you for spotting this problem.

I'm having a problem once I include a merge module. It's the merge module for ActiveReports 2.0. (ActiveReportsDistrib.msm)

I have installed the latest DLL from:

http://www.installaware.com/mmergemod.dll

Also, this is the only Merge Module I am including.

Here is the log message of the failure:
  • Copied file D:\\data\\WDEVINE\\MARSI\\DRGSolution\\DrgWindows\\bin\\Debug\\DRGData.dll
    Copied file D:\\data\\WDEVINE\\MARSI\\DRGSolution\\DrgWindows\\bin\\Debug\\DRGBO.dll
    Copied file D:\\data\\WDEVINE\\MARSI\\DRGSolution\\DrgWindows\\bin\\Debug\\DRGDataAccess.dll
    Copied file D:\\data\\WDEVINE\\MARSI\\DRGSolution\\DrgWindows\\bin\\Debug\\DrgWindows.exe
    Copied file D:\\data\\WDEVINE\\MARSI\\DRGSolution\\DrgWindows\\bin\\Debug\\DrgWindows.exe.config
    Created Windows Installer database
Error during build: Unable to merge Windows Installer database with module ActiveReportsDistrib
Anyone else included this merge module successfully?

Thank you,

Bill D

Again, it was a language issue; again, it was a problem in the mmergemod.dll library. Thanks for spotting this one as well! You shouldn't have any more problems with merge modules from now.

Download location remains the same as before. Enjoy.
