BCL EasyPDF Merge Modules

BCL Technologies only certifies their merge modules for their PDF printer for Installshield. I have included the MSM modules in my IA project. The files get installed, but certain features don’t work when I use the installer that I created with IA. I have tried other install builder applications including Wise. I have tried to import the merge modules into a new IA project with no success. Also, when I use the merge modules, they install before I can validate an install key. So I guess I have 2 questions, why do these merge modules not work with IA, and is there a way to call those merge modules in the script so that they install at the correct time?

The merge modules can be found at:

ftp://easypdfsdk:[email protected] ... dfsdk5.zip

the working installer that uses these merge modules can be found at:

ftp://howard:[email protected] ... 5%20na.msi

Any help would be appreciated

Unfortunately, merge modules fall outside of the scope of MSIcode scripting, so its not really possible to conditionally execute them.

If you need to enter properties into the merge modules, you can do so using Orca.

Another approach is to convert the merge modules to stand-alone MSI files. You can use the attached merge module converter tool for that! This way, they can essentially be scripted using the (Un)Install MSI Setup command whenever you need them to run.

I am having the exact same issue with what look like the same merge modules. I have done as you have suggested and created msi's using the utility you have posted here. Unfortunately this does not seem to install correctly. The msi's run but I still don't have the print driver installed that that merge module contains. My MSICode is as follows...

[DEFINE REGION: Perform First Time or Maintenance Installation]
Set Variable OS64BIT to FALSE
Get System Setting Windows in 64 bit Mode into OS64BIT
if Variable OS64BIT Equals TRUE
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF664bit\easyPDFSDK6CoreModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF664bit\easyPDFSDK6PDFProcessorModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF664bit\easyPDFSDK6PrinterModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF664bit\easyPDFSDK6ProModuleBCLLisc.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF664bit\easyPDFSDK6WordExtensionModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
else
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF632bit\easyPDFSDK6CoreModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF632bit\easyPDFSDK6PDFProcessorModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF632bit\easyPDFSDK6PrinterModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF632bit\easyPDFSDK6ProModuleBCLLisc.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
Install/Remove MSI Package C:\Development\DocBinder\EasyPDF\EasyPDF632bit\easyPDFSDK6WordExtensionModule.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL]
end

I am new to InstallAware and this is my first installer so please tell me if I am doing something wrong here. My aim is to get one working installer for both 32bit and 64bit systems. This seems to be the last stumbling block I need to overcome. If I can no longer do it this way are there any other ways of getting 32bit and 64bit merge modules installed within the same installer? I have also tried to create 2 seperate installers only including the merge modules and then call them from the MSICode, this didn't work either.

Hi,

I am afraid, as has been said before, that merge modules cannot be installed conditionally. You would have to either convert them to MSI's or create 2 different setups.

Creating MSIs using the tool attached on this thread did not work i'm afraid. The converted MSIs run but does not install anything. The same happened for calling 2 seperate installaware projects with the merge modules inside.

Creating two seperate projects for 32 bit and 64 bit works after applying the fix in this thread (replacing mergemod.dll)...

I had rather hoped I would only have one installer to maintain, but if thats the way it has to be that is what I will do. :(

thanks,
Darren

I'm sorry but the 64 bit package still does not work, the 32bit package runs great. The only difference between the 32bit and 64 bit packages are the merge modules. It builds okay and the progress screen looks like it is installing everything but when running the application all of the BCL components are missing. Are there any more known issues with including 64bit merge modules?

Hi,

We are not aware of any such issues - are you able to install other 64 bit merge modules?

Hi,

I don't have any others to test. But I have managed to get a working installer that runs on 32 and 64 bit. I had to create 2 Visual Studio installation projects, these include only the sets of merge modules 1 for 32 and 1 for 64. Including these MSIs within my code in InstallAware now works fine. :D
