miabuild.exe and .msi creation

Hi, miabuild appears to create only a single .exe. How can I create a single .msi from the command-line?

Take a look in the "group policy" folder.

You need to use pgplwiz.exe to convert your EXE to an MSI. It only works with compressed builds.

The command line options and examples can be found in the IA6 help file (search from group policy).

Thanks, I found that tool, however I can't seem to get it to work. I'm giving the tool exactly the arguments requested in the exact format, yet it keeps popping up the GUI, which I assume means that it doesn't like something I'm providing it on the command-line, yet there are no error messages or anything else to tell me what it doesn't like. It only throws up the GUI, so I'm trying to guess at what it needs. Is there a way to make this tool behave only as a command-line tool and have it provide perhaps more info on the command-line options it's having trouble with?

EXE and MSI command line build in one

I am trying to use one batch file to build the exe and then build the msi. (One after the other)

After I run the miabuild.exe the command prompt closes without running the pgplwiz.exe

If I put them into separate batch files these commands work perfectly.

How can I use ONE batch file to run both command lines?

Should work.

I do this using an automated build environment that uses batch files too.

Can you post your batch file?

My Batch file has the following commands:

Code: Select all

@ECHO OFF
ECHO ***************************************************************************
ECHO The InstallAware miabuild.exe will build the InstallAware Candy.exe file...
ECHO ***************************************************************************
PAUSE
ECHO
cd "C:\\Program Files\\InstallAware\\InstallAware 6"
miabuild.exe "C:\\My Project\\Release\\Single\\CCS Cady.mpr" /o="C:\\My Project\\Release" /b=1 /r
ECHO
ECHO ************************************************************************
ECHO The InstallAware GroupPolicy Wizard will now build the Setup.MSI file...
ECHO ************************************************************************
ECHO
PAUSE
cd "C:\\Program Files\\InstallAware\\InstallAware 6\\group policy"
pgplwiz.exe "C:\\My Project\\Release\\Single\\My Project.exe" " " "C:\\My Project\\Release\\Single\\Setup.msi" "Setup" "1.0"
ECHO
ECHO Pause

No problems at the initial glance.

Can you post your output of the script?

How would I go about doing that? This is a batch file that executes in using cmd.exe

If you run the batch file in cmd, you can select the output and then copy / paste it into notepad, or the message window on this forum.

Failing that, you can run it with something like:

runme.bat > output.txt

That would create the file output.txt containing all output from the batch file runme.bat.

I got it workinng. YAY!! :D

I just needed to add "cmd /C" in some places. Here's what it looks like now:

Code: Select all

 @ECHO OFF
ECHO ***************************************************************************
ECHO The InstallAware miabuild.exe will build the InstallAware Candy.exe file...
ECHO ***************************************************************************
cmd /C
cd "C:\\Program Files\\InstallAware\\InstallAware 6"
miabuild.exe "C:\\My Project\\Release\\Single\\My Project.mpr" /o="C:\\My Project\\Release" /b=1 /r > C:\\IAexeOutput.txt
cmd /C
@ECHO OFF
ECHO.
ECHO ************************* EXE buildcomplete ****************************
ECHO.
ECHO ************************************************************************
ECHO The InstallAware GroupPolicy Wizard will now build the Setup.MSI file...
ECHO ************************************************************************
cd "C:\\Program Files\\InstallAware\\InstallAware 6\\group policy"
pgplwiz.exe "C:\\My Project\\Release\\Single\\My Project.exe" " " "C:\\My Project\\Release\\Single\\Setup.msi" "Setup" "1.0" > C:\\IAmsiOutput.txt
ECHO.
ECHO *************************** MSI build complete *************************
Pause

Hate to revitalize an old thread, but…..
I’ve gotten the command line interface to build the exe and converit to an msi. Everything works great, except it’s not picking up the version number that I supply via the command line.
Thus, when I install the msi, under ‘Program and Features’, my product is listed with no version.

Here are the commands:
miabuild "C:\InstallAware_Projects\PRODUCT\PRODUCT.mpr" /o="C:\Temp\PRODUCT" /b=1 /r VERSION="1.2.3.40012" Manufacturer="Me"
c:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 2012\group policy\pgplwiz.exe" c:\temp\PRODUCT\Release\Single\PRODUCTSetup.exe "ALLUSERS=TRUE" c:\temp\PRODUCT\Release\Single\PRODUCTSetup.msi "PRODUCT Name" 1.2.3.40022

No errors are produced. Product does install.

Thanks!

Patrick.

Dear Patrik,

with the following link is available a ready to use sample that does exactly that;
http://www.installaware.com/forum/viewt ... t=compiler

To set the version number using the cmdline build tool:
miabuild.exe "projectfile" "MYVERSION=18.1.0.0"

Regards.

Thanks Francesco.

I tried the 'MYVERSION', and if I use Orca to look at the msi, the version is set under Properties.
However, 'Programs and Featuers' still doesn't list anything for the version.
Odd....

Dear Patrik,

I have just checked ... and under "Add & remove" program the package version is reported correctly.

Could you please post a Screen-Shot?

Regards.
