Cannot register ocx anymore

I am registering an ocx from the installer. This has worked well in WinXP, but I tested the installation in Win2K and it hung up. I had to end the task and start over, but the ocx would not register. Since this happened, I cannot even register the ocx manually with regsvr32. I receive an error: 0x80040201. I have always been able to register this ocx before, so could someone please explain how this could occur (and a solution)?

Thanks.

I have run into this same problem in Vista. There is an easy solution that works everytime for me.

I select the registry area in IA and then Import. Select the DLL/OCX and after the data is imported edit the hard coded paths from within the MSI editor to proper corresponding IA path variables.

Sometimes the files seem to become corrupt after installing from IA and the registration fails. You may need to delete the file manually and then recreate the install using what I described above.

For some reason that I have yet to find this will only happen with certain files. It is not an IA problem, becasue I have had the same issue using Wise and it happened with the same file.

The problem does not exist with InstallShield as their registration procedure is basically the same thing that you can manually do in IA, but it does it in the background.
