I'm currently evaluating InstallAware for potential use as Installer for a project I'm working on.

The Project requires setting up a SQL Database. I'm testing with the Quick Starts -> Samples -> MS SQL Server Connection project.

On my development pc that has both Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition and Sql Server 2005 Express Edition installed, only the sqlexpress instance is shown in the instance enumeration and I can also only connect to Sqlexpress.

When (running the sample project MSI) I manually change [ComputerName]\\SQLExpress to just [ComputerName] to try to connect to the 2005 Dev Edition Instance, the connection test fails when the Express Edition instance isn't running, but succeeds when express edition is running. So I assume even when I specify I want to connect to the default (dev. edition) instance, the Sql Server Plugin still tries to connect to the Express Instance.

Is this a known problem with the sql server plugin? Am I doing something wrong? Is the source code for the sql server plugin available?

Sql Server is configured to allow access via Network (TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols are enabled). No firewall or other silly things are running.

Is Sql Browser and Sql Agents and Sql Writer services running on Sql Server 2005 machine? Are remote connections allowed?

There is no issue with the SQL server plugin. You're probably doing something wrong.

Agent, Writer and Browser services are running.

Remote Connections are enabled. But I don't think Remote Connections have to be enabled for a local sql server. The plugin finds and connects to the local SQLExpress instance that doesn't allow remote connections just fine.
