Cannot Clone a Project

I am a newbie that recently had to create an install by manually cloning an IA project by literally looking at the content and settings of one project, and copying each and every setting and element to a new project. I was told to do this because "SAVE PROJECT AS" does not work apparently.

So is there any way to use an existing project as a template for a new project? Because through some testing we proved that "SAVE PROJECT AS" does not accomplish this. Even after you copy over a bunch of files and repoint the script file reference to the new version, the GUIDs are not automatically changed. And this causes a problem when you install both the source project and the derived project on the same machine. I think this is because of registry keys that get overriden, but I'm not sure. Either way, using PROJECT SAVE AS does not refresh the various GUIs to make them unique and that causes problems.

Thoughts? Thank you in advance for your help.

Read the following topic in the help file: "Saving and Moving a Project". However, the GUIDs however, still need to be changed by you.

Thank you for the response. Follow-up question. When you say the GUIDs will have to be changed manually by me. Do you mean the two GUIDs (Product and Revision Code), or do you mean the HUNDREDs of GUIDS in the MIA file? I see that there is functionality that allows the changing of the first two. But I cannot fathom changing the GUIDs in the MIA file. Thoughts? Perhaps the GUIDs in the MIA file don't have to be changed? All I know is that we've had issues in the past with installing a cloned/copied project to the same system. Perhaps our people didn't change the product GUID.

kfredericks,

You just need to worry about the "Product Code" and "Revision Code" GUID's. I also think the issues were because your people forgot to change those two GUID's. Otherwise, there is no problem.
