Force UAC-prompt for Setup.exe

We have InstallAware 7 Express. Our application installs program files in the C:\\Program Files directory. So Setup.exe needs Elevated Privileges.

How can I make sure that Setup.exe will present the user with the UAC prompt to obtain the proper admin privileges?

I want to user to double click on the icon, not to right click and select "Run as administrator" or something.

I tried to add a manifest using mt.exe, but as stated somewhere else, mt.exe gets truncated.

Put the manifest in Dependent.exe

I'm running IA 7 and had the same issue. In my case, for whatever reason, when I switched from using a VeriSign code signing certificate to one from Comodo (at a significant savings) the UAC stopped requesting Admin Privileges when running installs under Vista.

It appears that you can not use MT.exe to change the manifest file of a built IA7 single-exe install (truncated file reported elsewhere.) However, in the InstallAware 7 directory you CAN change the manifest file of Dependent.exe. I put in a new Manifest into Dependent.exe (using MT.EXE) and I got my requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" back in place.

Before attempting this, you may want to backup your Dependent.exe file, in the event that there are unintended side effects. Then, use MT.exe to embed the manifest. Finally, rebuild your setup.

I have no idea if this applies to other versions of IA, but it worked for me.

Hi guys,

Just to confirm this is correct; you can not modify the file directly as it is a stub file that is built during the compilation process.

I would like to indicate that InstallAware 9 includes support in the GUI for adjusting this manifest option. (UAC)
