Detecting SQL Instances gives different results if ran twice

Hi,
I have a fairly large installer which has two features which include setting up database's. If i only select one feature so that the select instance dialog (copied from SQL instance example) appears once then everything is fine.
If i select both feature so the SQL instance dialog appears twice then the second time i have a much reduced list. I've tried clearing the values of AVAILABLEINSTANCES between dialogs but neither it's made no difference.
Any ideas ?
