Install Assembly to GAC not working

I must be doing something wrong. None of my assemblies go into the GAC.

In my script after APPLY INSTALL (it success) I call the following:

Code: Select all

~Install Assembly~
~{E6B5A70B-B52F-4A2B-BFF7-7D979DFD6AD2}~
~c:\\source\\vistadb3\\frameworks\\net 2.0\\bin\\VistaDB.Designer.VS2005.dll~
~FALSE~
~$TARGETDIR$\\Frameworks\\NET 2.0\\IDE\\VS2005\\~

~Install Assembly~
~{11B1284F-C2DB-47CB-B02B-66196276E10C}~
~C:\\source\\vistadb3\\Frameworks\\NET 2.0\\Bin\\VistaDB.NET20.dll~
~TRUE~
~~

~Install Assembly~
~{9F2C4D90-F4E1-4765-B605-978EE50FB760}~
~c:\\source\\vistadb3\\frameworks\\net 2.0\\bin\\VistaDB.Web.dll~

Install an assembly into the GAC, and one into the user path. Neither one works. They both are present at build time, and will copy but not install using the built in command.

Are you supposed to copy them and then register them? I see a lot of references in the forums to manually calling the register is a bat. I thought that was a big no-no for Vista Logo. You can't called GACUTIL to put things in the GAC.

Is there some other place the install assembly command should go?

You are placing your Install Assembly commands after the Apply Install, and they should be before. Install Assembly is one of those commands that need the Apply Install to make effect.

I don't remember seeing that in the docs on InstallAssembly.

What about running external commands? Do they have to be before or after? The command is being copied as a part of the setup, so I figured it would have to be after the apply install. Is that the general rule for when to use a command before or after the apply?

In the help file, read topic "Classes of Commands". The Install Assembly command is a Windows Installer command type. Actually, IA differentiates commands by color in the script. All commands that are the same color as the Install Files command are Windows Installer command type.

OK, I will read through that in the help. I would still expect the IDE to warn me that I am putting a command in an invalid spot. It does in some other places, but not with assemblies.
