User authentication HOWTO ?

Hello,
I was trying to check how one of sample projects works like. I want to check if I can use InstallAware also for licensing of created software. Therefore I created new project called "Online User Authentication". What else should be done to complete this functionality? Especially, where are the accounts stored in?
PS: There is also another sample project called "Serial Validation", how this feature can be used?
