Runtime install detection

Just wondering if anyone has tried this or not. What I am trying to do is package alot of general assemblies into one package to distribute as a web media block these assemblies don't change often but do change now and again might be a few versions before a change. All that is fine and I have it working except one thing.
What I want to do is only reinstall these assemblies when the revision code changes not the product code (only way I can see at the moment) The reason I want to do this is I can remake the MSI for the new runtimes with out altering the Check script in the runtime for each of the installs we have. All I can see doing is change the product code and deinstall if any of the previous products has been installed.
Anyone else tried this?
