The install program will not install any files

Hi,

I am having a problem with InstallAware 8. The installer I am building is a very basic one - I want it to simply copy a directory of files (and sub-fodlers) to a user specified location. However, the installer will not install the files if I attempt to run it again. (I want it to do this so that an upgrade can be performed). Originnally, it always deleted the previous install, which I was able to stop by commenting out the MSI un-install command.

I have the following in the script:

Get Component E2 Shop Software Selection State into Variable SELECTED
if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
Install Files C:\\Stage\\Server Install\\*.* to $TARGETDIR$, ignore files matching wildcard pattern(s) *.Config, include subfolders
end
Comment: Comment: TO-DO: Insert any additional install commands here
[compiler if Variable BUILDMODE Equals PATCH]
Apply Patch (get result into variable SUCCESS)
[compiler else]
if Variable ADVERTISE Equals TRUE
Apply Advertised (get result into variable SUCCESS)
else
Apply Install (get result into variable SUCCESS)

I thought that the Install command, which is an MSI command, would run after the Apply Install command is issued. However, if it is, it is not performing as expected. BTW - the result is COMPLETE for the Apply Install.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Robert

Hi,

OK, I think I figured out the problem, but not sure how to resolve it. The installer will work as I would like for it to if I change the "Product Code" (under the properties of the project). With this changed, I can always achieve the behavior that I expected.

However, I am building this through a batch file - thus, using the command line tool. I can not find a method to force the "Product Code" to be changed (the /R option changes the revision GUID, not the Product Code GUID).

Does anyone know how to do this from the command line? I know there is a variable for it ($PRODUCTCODE$), so I could probably change it through this area, but it would be better to have a cleaner approach.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Robert

OK, and I think I found that as well!

OK, it looks like there is a feature called Transform Instance which can help with this...

I am experimenting with that now... I will post my sucess (or lack thereof) with it.
