Web media block versioning

I am a total IA newbie so please indulge me in what is probably a simple question!
We have a large application made up of several optional modules. I have created a nice setup in IA that works very well when deployed as a monolithic setup.exe but I am thinking about how to create a setup.exe to use web media blocks to keep the download smaller for those who don't need all of the modules.
I think I understand how to do all of this but my question is what happens after we have created a new version, posted the new media blocks and someone with an older setup.exe tries to install (perhaps they are just adding a feature to an existing installation)? Will the installer automatically realize that the media blocks on the web don't match the current install or do I need to create a system of keeping old versions on the web just in case?
Thanks!
