Uninstall problem single-exe

Hey,

I've been having problems with my installer when trying to uninstall my product. It keeps asking for the original resources. Several topics that I found related to this matter indicated it has something to do with the maintenance mode of the installer. A workaround would be using the webbuild with offline content.

I tried the webbuild, but it seems to be worse with that. It does run through the uninstaller perfectly, however, it doesn't delete anything. So far for uninstalling the product. It also ignores the execution of an application during uninstall.

So now I'm back to my original problem. If I want to uninstall with a single-exe, do I need the original resources? I don't even want to support any form of modify/repair, so it's only remove I want. If it's possible, how can I achieve this?

Any help or links to further reading are appreciated.

Alexander

Unfortunately, yes, you need your original setup resources to uninstall the product. That's pretty annoying.

The only thing you can actually do, is to change setup type from single file to monolitic Web-Build which will create single compressed file and won't never ask for original resources.

Hi alexander,

I 'm pretty sure it's possible to uninstall a single exe installer without the original package.
When I first played with InstallAware, I disabled the maintenance dialog because I thought I don't need maintenance mode. But the script behind didn't reflect my thinking... As a result, the uninstall was asking for the original package.
There are also other reasons why the uninstall can ask for the original package.

I think it's best, if you start off with the "basic installer" setup template, and gradually apply your changes. That way you see when it starts to require the original.
I know it's labor intensive, but I can't give you a better advice.
