Two installers, only one allowed to execute

Hi,

I've got a problem with the installation of our product. It consists of two separate programs, one a server application, one the client.

I created two installers.
1) Installs the server software, and optionally the client software. This one has a full GUI. This is a single-exe build.
2) Installs the client software, but is designed for silent installers only. This one is an uncompressed build, but included as a zip-file within the server installer.

After installing the server software it runs an activation wizard that puts information in a local database. I also unzips the silent installer and puts the db file in the correct data-folder of the silent installer to replace the db so the silent installer is automatically activated.

The problem that occurs is that if I run the client installer, it shouldn't install, nor uninstall, the server software. Even if the client is not installed via the server installer. Currently I tried using the same GUID for both installers, but it then just uninstalls the serversoftware, without even asking. Even if I run it without the /s command.

So how can I make it so that the client software aborts and gives an error, as soon as anything from the server installer is installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alexander

Make sure all guids are different.

In the client install, check for the server guid using Is MSI Setup Installed, and abort if found.
