Is it possible to replace the sql server express 2008 that is bundled with installaware for automatic installation (if you choose that for your install) with the version with advanced services? If so, how would you replace it? Any help would be appreciated.

Steve,
As far as I know there isn't really a way to "replace" the official SQL2008 prereq with the one with Advanced Services.
However, you could include the SQL2008 w/AS installer inside of your IA installer and run it when needed using modified versions of the MSICode scripts used to install the "official" SQL2008 prereq. You could even use the standard SQL2008 plugin UI to generate the commandline for you, then use it with the Advanced Services installer.
Let me know if this sounds way over your head and I'll cook it down a bit more ;-)
