Canceling SQL 2005 prereq install hangs installer

Hello,

If "Cancel" is clicked and confirmed ("Are you sure...") while the SQL 2005 prereq is being installed, the install neither completes nor terminates. The prereq progress dialog just continues on indefinitely (I let it run for a hour).

This is not the behavior I would expect. Any suggestions/comments/workarounds?

I'm using IA 6.5.

Thanks!

Keith

P.S. This may happen with other prereqs as well, but I haven't checked all of mine yet ;-)

Since its running an EXE setup, its waiting for the shelled setup to complete. Because its not an MSI that is called, progress monitoring and instant cancellation is not possible. InstallAware won't wait and immediately return in future updates, but the background silent install cannot be aborted nevertheless even in that scenario.

You probably already found a workaround, but

I had the same issue. I put the sql server express 2005 sp2 files into a filebag, extracted them and ran the installer non-silent mode. Silent mode is slick, but our experience has been that we get too many tech support calls because sql server does not install. It helps to get the feedback from that installer immediately - the user can see that lots of stuff is going on and that helps too.

InstallAware 9 does not "freeze", or rather, wait indefinitely, for the spawned setup process to complete any more. It will return after a reasonable short amount of time.
