Cannot extract 7zip file

I need help, please. My install must install 2500 files to a directory in the taget machine.
I started out using just putting them in in a file bag and then used the "Copy Local Files" command to to move them to the correct spot on the target machine. This workes fine on XP. It also worked fine on Vista if the install is run from the local hard drive. However, if the install was ran from a external drive or network drive, then IA would set there for up to 11 minutes saying "Validating Install", then it would finally go ahead and move the files. I cannot have the installer just sitting there fore 11 minutes before it starts installing.
So I thought I would try using 7-zip to zip the files then just have the installer unzip them to the correct location, and see if that is faster. This is where I started getting very confused. IA says to use ".7zip". I downloaded 7-zip and tries to zip my files but I cannot find how to get a ??.7zip file. I can only generate a ??.zip file or a ??.7z file. Which one does IA want? I have tried both using the following code. Both of them return a "General Fault Opening Archive".
Set Variable AptAudioLoc to
Define File Bag : #PROJDIR#\\..\\APTaudio.zip, get runtime location of files into variable AptAudioLoc
Set Variable SUCCESS2 to
Extract 7Zip Archive $AptAudioLoc$\\APTaudio.zip into folder $TARGETDIR$\\APT Book Internal Data\\CLAware Waves (get result into variable SUCCESS2)
Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks so much!!!!
