Product Version from VisualBuild

I need to launch the InstallAware build from inside a VisualBuild project. Launching the build is working fine but I'm not sure how to go about setting the Product Version for the InstallAware build. The VisualBuild project generates a version string ( in the Major.Minor.Revision form ) - I assume I need to set this to a compiler variable in the InstallAware build step. Is there a built-in variable that InstallAware will look for to use as the Product Version? If not, how do I go about transferring the compiler variable to the Product Version?

For the full list of pre-defined variables and pre-defined compiler variables, search the text I have bolded in this post in the help index :)

Thanks. Just in case anyone else is trying to do this, I ended up passing a compiler-variable on the command line

Code: Select all

miabuild.exe installer.mpr /b=0 /r BUILDVERSION=%BUILDVERSION%
and then ( taken from this post ) inserted the following as the first line of the msi

Code: Select all

Set Variable VERSION to #BUILDVERSION#
and that appears to work.

I guess I spoke too soon. Using the above technique I was able to set the VERSION variable and display it in a dialog box using $VERSION$. Unfortunately, the version does not show up in the Version column of the Add/Remove control panel - that entry is blank after installation. Is there something else I need to do to make the version show up there as well?

Attempting put the version in the Product name ( something like 'My Product $Version$' ) works in the dialogs but shows up without the replacement ( literally 'My Product $Version$' ) in Add/Remove programs. So it looks like the msi script is not run soon enough for the installer to use the correct string.

Any ideas?
